Dr. Deborah Blair, Radiologist
One of our most long-standing associates, Dr. Blair has been with our practice since 1987. She is a graduate of Yale University, where she also completed her radiology residency, and conducted her fellowship in CT, MR and Ultrasound. Her primary interest is in women's imaging and she is well known for her expertise in musculoskeletal ultrasound. Dr. Blair previously served as Chief of Ultrasound in the Radiology Department at the Alexandria Hospital. She currently serves as Department Chairperson at INOVA Mt. Vernon Hospital. She regularly gives media interviews and lectures on womens health issues. Her involvements include Prenatal, Cancer, Medical, Executive, Quality Assurance and Credentials Committees. Dr. Blair brings to Ultrasound Associates her considerable experience, a passion for medical care, and a warm reassuring style.
Dr. Monjari Gillian, Radiologist
Dr. Gillian joined our practice in 1999. She received her undergraduate degree from Duke University in 1989, after which she obtained her medical degree at the University of Missouri, Columbia School of Medicine. Her residency was at the Western Pennsylvania Hospital, and her fellowship in Body Imaging was completed at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. Receiving her certification from the American Board of Radiology in 1997, Dr. Gillian has a special interest in CT and ultrasound. She also regularly performs image-guided interventions, and has become a frequently-consulted authority on conditions that typically affect women, such as osteoporosis. She is a member of the American College of Radiologists, the American Roentgen Ray Society, the Radiologic Society of North America and the Society of Radiologists in U.S. Dr. Gillian's direct and informative approach to patient care is a welcome asset to our practice.
Dr. Anu Khianey, Radiologist
Dr. Khianey is the newest physician to join our practice in 2010. Dr.Khianey received her medical degree from Louisiana State University. She completed her residency at Georgetown University Hospital, as well as a Fellowship in Abdominal Imaging. Dr.Khianey has a special interest in women’s imaging (breast, GYN, and prenatal imaging) which she brings to Ultrasound Associates.
Dr. Theresa Yuh, Radiologist
Dr. Yuh joined our practice in 2006. Dr. Yuh received her medical degree from the New York University School of Medicine in 1997. She completed her internship in Internal Medicine at Lenox Hill Hospital and her residency in Diagnostic Radiology at Montefiore Medical Center. Her fellowship in Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Computed Tomography and Ultrasound Body Imaging was completed at the hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. She is a certified Diplomat of American Board of Radiology. Dr. Yuh brings strong clinical skills and a decisive diagnostic approach to Ultrasound Associates.
Judith N. Albarelli, MA, RT (R),(M), RDMS
Judith Albarelli is the founder and President of Ultrasound Associates. Prior to establishing Ultrasound Associates, Judith began her rich and diverse career in ultrasound at George Washington University Hospital in 1974. There she was elevated to the dual role of Associate Professor in Ultrasound at the GW Medical School and Clinical Specialist at GW Hospital. An early pioneer in the field of ultrasound, she authored and co-authored numerous textbooks, articles and scientific papers, and lectured extensively throughout the medical community. Judith served for eight years on the first organizing Board of the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS), where she helped develop the ARDMS credentialing process and testing criteria, and helped set the early direction for an organization that is today the globally recognized certifying body for excellence in sonography. Judith is the third person world-wide to be registered by the ARDMS. Her extensive consulting career in ultrasound spans the fields of equipment research and engineering, post-graduate teaching, educational films, curriculum development, genetics and infertility, to mention just a few. As Consultant on Ultrasound to the International Red Cross, Judith volunteered her skills as a visiting lecturer and helped organize hospital ultrasound departments in South America. Judith is ARDMS certified in Abdominal, OB/GYN and Neurosonology, and certified by the Fetal Medicine Foundation in Nasal Bone, Tricuspid Flow, and Nuchal Translucency. Judith loves all aspects of diagnostic ultrasound, especially obstetric and gynecologic sonography. In her spare time she loves to hike (both in the US and abroad) and spend time with her family.
Sha-la Francis, B.S., RDMS
Sha-la joined Ultrasound Associates as Staff Sonographer in 2009. She is a graduate of the Rochester Institute of Technology, where she received her B.S. in Biology in 2006, and her Certificate of Diagnostic Medical Sonography in 2009. Sha-la is ARDMS registered with specialty in OB/GYN, and holds the Fetal Medicine Foundation Certificate of Competence in Nasal Bone, Tricuspid Flow, and Nuchal Translucency. Sha-la is native to Trinidad and Tobago, and lived in New York City before attending school in Rochester. Sha-la has a special interest in Japanese, Korean and Chinese culture and language, and enjoys playing the violin, singing, and being in the company of her friends and family.
Nora I. Grobauer, R.T. (R) (M)
Nora joined Ultrasound Associates as Staff Mammographer in 2001, bringing with her fifteen (15) years of experience with hospital-based radiology. She specializes in mammography and bone densitometry. Nora is registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in Daignostic Radiology and Mammography. She is a graduate of Georgetown University Hospital School of Radiology.
Helen Kotula, RT (R),(M); RDMS; RDCS;RVT
Helen Kotula joined Ultrasound Associates in 1991. As Senior Staff Sonographer, Helen holds ARDMS’ multidisciplinary certifications as a Registered Vascular Sonographer, Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer with specialty in Adult Echocardiography, and Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer with specialty in Abdominal and Obstetrical/Gynecological sonography. She is also registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT) in Radiography and Mammography. Helen is certified by the Fetal Medicine Foundation is Nasal Bone, Tricuspid Flow, and Nuchal Translucency. Helen is a graduate of the Baltimore City Hospital School of Radiologic Technology where she received the Dupont Award for Clinical Excellence; and the Maryland Institute of Ultrasound Technology where she ranked first in her class and received the MIUT Award for Clinical Excellence. Helen enjoys the challenge of ultrasound’s rapidly advancing technology. She is an avid Baltimore Ravens fan and enjoys spending time with her family at home on the Severn River.
Angel Malone-Renwick, R.T. (R)
Angel joined Ultrasound Associates as Staff Mammographer in 2006. She obtained her certificate in Radiologic Science at the Mary Washington Hospital School of Radiology. While in school, Angel worked as an Emergency Room Patient Service Representative, and Radiographer-intern. She specializes in mammography and bone densitometry, and looks forward to becoming ARDMS certified in breast sonography. Angel is from Albany, Georgia and now resides in Fredericksburg. Angel’s interests are centered on family and community service.
Eileen A. Quatannens, RT (R), RDMS
Eileen joined Ultrasound Associates as Staff Sonographer in 2000. Eileen is a former Interventional Radiology Technician for Children’s Hospital National Medical Center. She is a graduate of Broome Community College in New York, and completed her post graduate ultrasound education at George Washington University. She is ARDMS certified in OB/GYN, Fetal Medicine Foundation certified in Nasal Bone, Tricuspid Flow, and Nuchal Translucency. Eileen resides in Old Town Alexandria where she enjoys an active life with her family.
Mariana K. Shelley, B.S., RDMS
Mariana joined Ultrasound Associates as Staff Sonographer in 2009 after completing her clinical internship at Inova Fairfax Hospital and the Greater Baltimore Medical Center, Prenatal Diagnostic Center. Mariana is a graduate of James Madison University, B.S. in Health Sciences, and the University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC) School of Diagnostic Medical Sonography. Mariana is certified by the fetal Medicine Foundation in Nasal Bone, Tricuspid Flow, and Nuchal Translucency. She is a Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer with a specialty in OB/GYN. Before attending UMBC, Mariana was a Physical Therapy Technician. She is native to Russia, lived in Israel and Miami, and is proficient in Russian.Mariana loves travel, new foods, playing the piano, and spending time with her husband and decorating their townhouse together.
Kathryn A. Staursky, LPN, RDMS, RDCS
Kathryn Staursky joined Ultrasound Associates in 1988 after graduating from the Maryland Institute of Ultrasound Technology. As Senior Staff Sonographer, Kathryn holds the distinctive credential and experience of having also worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse specializing in Pediatric, OB/GYN and Infertility Nursing. She is a Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer with specialty in Adult Echocardiography, and a Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer with specialty in OB/GYN and Abdominal sonography. She is certified by the Fetal Medicine Foundation in Nasal Bone, Tricuspid Flow, and Nuchal Translucency. Kathryn has served as a consultant advisor on infertility and reproductive medicine, and instructor in ultrasound at the University of Maryland. Kathryn is a long-time resident of Alexandria and an accomplished jewelry artist.
Anna Ward Toney, B.A., RDMS
Anna Toney is a Senior Staff Sonographer who joined Ultrasound Associates in 1990 after graduating from the Ultrasound Diagnostic School in Maryland, and completing her Ultrasound Internship at Prince William Hospital. Anna is a graduate of George Mason University. She is ARDMS certified with specialty in OB/GYN, Abdominal, and Breast Ultrasound. She is certified by the Fetal Medicine Foundation in Nasal Bone, Tricuspid Flow, and Nuchal Translucency. Anna is an outdoor buff who enjoys bird-watching, boating, fishing and camping with her family, church, and Girl Scouts.
